In this blog we discuss the most common upholstery problems that can arise in use. We will break each problem down, looking at what it is, the likely cause and recommended remedies and solutions to avoid future re-occurrence.

CROCKING: What is it? Crocking is the term used to describe the transfer of excess dye from one surface to another due to rubbing and friction. The issue is increased by certain atmospheric conditions such as humidity and temperature.

Likely cause: In a situation where the dye is transferring out of the upholstery fabric (for instance a red fabric is turning pink) it will usually be a result of either poor quality dyes used during textile manufacturing or that the dyes were not set correctly during the dyeing and finishing process. Crocking can also occur when dye is transferred from an outside source onto the upholstery fabric, for instance a pair of new jeans can transfer blue dye on to your sofa giving it a grubby appearance.

Remedy: The key thing to establish with crocking is whether the discolouration is due to dye transferring out of your upholstery fabric or on to it from an external source. If it is transferring out of the fabric then it is important to check that some substance e.g. a solvent based product, has not come into contact with the fabric and affected the dyes. If all of the above can be ruled out then a genuine fabric issue may be the cause and the fabric will need to be replaced from another batch or alternative fabric.

FADING: What is it? Discolouration or lightening of the dye in a fabric due to exposure to ultraviolet light. Constant exposure to high levels of direct ultraviolet light can also result in fibre degradation, causing the fabric fibres to become brittle, which may result in areas of breakage.

Primary, secondary and kindergarten teachers are striking this week as they look for a pay offer that meets inflation at 7.2% and makes concessions around staffing issues - in particular, student to teacher ratios.

A ratio of 1 teacher for 23 students applies for year 11 students, however support staff can be counted as teachers so the reality is that class sizes can be much higher.
What do you think are the ideal sizes for classrooms?

Preserving and enhancing biodiversity and conservation lands across Hauraki and Coromandel is a long-term project requiring vision, perseverance, and resilient funding.

The Predator Free Hauraki Coromandel Community Trust supports 100+ conservation and backyard-trapping groups. Current projects include kiwi protection, trap-building, bringing national experts in for training workshops, and a field support team helping the local groups with track cutting and, currently, storm recovery.

The newly established Fund for Nature – Hauraki Coromandel has been established by the Trust with Momentum Waikato to provide sustainable and secure funding for this critical work into the future.

“Our partnership with Momentum Waikato is about providing a way for people everywhere to leave a legacy that supports the conservation work of Hauraki and Coromandel communities,” says the Trust's CE Jude Hooson.

“There are a lot of people who have been committed to conservation here for decades, and there are some leading conservation experts living locally, and they’re all concerned about who is going to continue to do the mahi.

“So, we’re not thinking small, we want to build a significant Fund for Nature,” says Jude.

Savvy Touch is a family business owned and operated right here in the Waikato.
We have used and recommended Steve's products for 20 years and still keep coming back for more.
Here is what Savvy Touch says about themselves.
We pride ourselves in using the best native ingredients from New Zealand and around the world, our aim is to always be 100% natural. But we will not compromise on performance. if needed we use "preservatives", but again our aim is to use the "cleanest" & most effective. The majority are plant based (coconut) preservatives.
Rocket Fuel our No1 product now becoming world famous a 100% natural synergistic blend designed to support a clear & healthy respiratory system in the head & chest a must have for breathing issues, incredible for athletes, breathe better perform better breathe better recover faster! #3drops #3secs #breathe
Our Skin Smoothie, it's "rude" to call it a moisturiser. It is packed with essential oils & herbs all designed to aid in natural healing of the skin. Incredible on normal skin it hydrates & retexturises. An absolute most have for dry damaged skin. Eczema, dermatitis etc.
Mango Butter Sunscreen. In a base on mango butter with calendula & active manuka honey to aid in natural healing of the skin while. We use zinc oxide as the block with an emulsifier so it absorbs clear into the skin. The big question is. Is it a moisturiser with a sunscreen or a sunscreen that moisturisers!
Just some of the incredible range we proudly call Savvy Touch
