Poll: Do you think councils running a shared rubbish service would be better?
Hamilton mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson reckons it’s time the city considered a new “in house” method of dealing with its rubbish and recycling, instead of simply letting foreign-owned companies truck it away.
In an announcement made on Saturday morning, Thomson said collaboration with other councils to deliver rubbish and recycling services might work for Hamilton - and it would at least be worth investigating to see if it would be cheaper than the current model.

Poll: Are you a Te Huia fan?
All three Hamilton MPs appear to be united behind the retention of the Te Huia passenger rail service between Hamilton and Auckland, as well as potentially expanding it to Tauranga.
But whether Hamilton East’s Ryan Hamilton, Hamilton West’s Tama Potaka and soon-to-be Labour list MP Georgie Dansey have the combined power to shunt transport minister Chris Bishop and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon onto their line of thinking remains to be seen.
