Hamilton has shivered through its coldest morning of the year so far, plunging to -3.2C overnight - the lowest temperature recorded in the city this winter.
But the chilliest spot in the Waikato region wasnโt Hamilton. That title went to Taupล, which dropped to -4.6C on Friday morning, the lowest reading across the region this winter.

Poll: Should we be giving the green light to new mining projects? ๐ฐ๐ฒ
The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if itโs approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
