Legal steps are ramping up to fight an appeal by state housing agency Kāinga Ora over designated historic heritage areas (HHAs) in Hamilton.
The Guardians of Claudelands group has quickly raised $10,000 to help argue against Kāinga Ora’s appeal to the Environment Court, which seeks to reduce the size of the Claudelands HHA under the city council’s Plan Change 9 (PC9).

Hamilton City Council is pledging to cut costs and avoid “gold plating” infrastructure as part of a new strategy to limit rates increases, but Mayor Tim Macindoe says central government support may be needed to meet a new national rates cap.
Macindoe said Wellington needed to be “a little more nuanced” and take population growth into account.
