Mourners from the top of the North Island, to the South and from across oceans have gathered at Tūrangawaewae marae for the funeral of the late Māori King.
Parties from 13 different tribes, including Ngāi Tahu, arrived on Monday for the funeral of Kiingi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero Vll, among the thousands drawn to Ngāruawāhia to pay their respects.

A wallaby spotted in Hamilton was probably kept as a pet, the regional council says - and that’s “simply irresponsible”.
The dama wallaby, which had an immature joey in its pouch, was spotted in Frankton on March 3, reported and killed, Waikato Regional Council says.
