Do you think primary teachers and principals should be striking? Thousands of teachers have taken industrial action on Wednesday, with dozens of rallies planned around the country. They aim to gain attention for better pay, conditions and incentives to attract new teachers. Although about 30,000 people in the profession are involved in the strike, not everyone agrees with it.
So, what are your thoughts on the strike? Do you think teachers deserve better pay? Or should they have stayed around the negotiating table for longer? Are you a teacher or parent with views on the topic? Let us know in the replies!

Our front page story today features three Hamilton high schoolers who made a plea to fast food giant McDonald's to adopt a 'straw on request' policy, but the burger chain shrugged off the request. Do you think it's reasonable for staff to ask customers whether they want a straw rather than automatically dishing them out with every drink? Let us know in the poll and comments below, but please refrain from negative discussion.

Key changes between the current Operative Plan and the Proposed Plan include:
• The adding of around 60 heritage sites and buildings, along with 16 notable trees to their respective lists. The rules have been amended to provide for ongoing maintenance and care or repair.
• A consistent residential zone and redeveloped village zone, along with three business zones. Additional residential zone areas have also been created in Tuakau, Pokeno, Te Kowhai, Taupiri, Ngaruawahia and Horotiu to allow for growth, along with an additional industrial zoned area in Huntly.
• Under the Taangata Whenua chapter, flexible provisions have been created that give more options for those with Maaori Freehold Land.
Community drop-in sessions will be held in August and September throughout the district - find out more here.
