Zuru's initiative
I just saw on 7 Sharp last night that Zuru has initiated a call out to assist vulnerable people by offering to match $ for $ any donations people may wish to make. I understand it is facilitated through the Salvation Army and donations are used in the area they are gifted from. Apparently it went live on Friday afternoon and last night was already up to $700,000. That is amazing and great that the idea came out of our backyard. Well done Zuru. You out there might know about it, but we didn't. I will track them down and donate now!

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

Derelict Tokanui Hospital site in line for a clean-up
Derelict Tokanui Hospital buildings will be demolished and contaminated land cleaned up so the site can be offered back to iwi.
The former psychiatric hospital, southeast of Te Awamutu, sits on land taken from Ngāti Maniapoto under the Public Works Act in 1910.
