MetService have issued a Severe Weather Watch for the west and north of the North Island today - Thursday 2nd June.

There are expected squally thunderstorms alongside heavy rain and hail, as well as a possible small tornado. There is some risk that the thunderstorm will become severe with localised downpours of 25 to 35 mm/h, 110 km/h wind gusts, and the chance of a localised damaging tornado.

Low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys with this intensity of rainfall may cause flash flooding and/or slips. This will make the driving conditions hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility due to the rain. Wind gusts of this strength, and damaging tornadoes can cause structural damage, including trees and power lines.

The weather watch is in place until 6pm tonight but any changes will be reported on the MetService website.

Aqualine

Nicky from Tamahere

Just posting to see, if by some slim chance, anyone has any spare sheets of Aqualine left over from a building project. I know they are as rare as hens teeth but thought I'd give it a shot. You can contact me on 0274 320122. Thanks

Rachel from Hamilton East

Seen better days so just flicking them off. Drawers corners have been chipped off but drawers themselves still intact. Would suit garage storage or as a temporary set until a nicer set can be sourced.

We each have our favourite genres and artists (though Nordic death metal isn't on any of our playlists at the moment). There’s one thing we have in common though, we all love the organ. In fact, two organs. Can you feel a bad joke coming on? You are correct. Here it is. The organs we love are the gut and our skin.
Errrrgh, was it worth the set-up? No. But it’s still true. We talk often about just how central the gut is to other organs but to every other part of the body. Yet, while they’re some distance from each other, the gut plays a vital role in another vital organ - your skin.

This year we need to use the Rotokauri Rd entrance due to works at the Brymer Rd entrance across from the Zoo.

Bring a spade or shovel, gumboots, appropriate outdoor weather gear, some gardening gloves, water and a big smile. If you don’t want to dig there are other ways to help out (like bringing a small food donation, or helping with setting out and serving a light lunch). A light lunch will be served (courtesy of Kaivolution, GoEco, WIFCO, the Bahá’í Community and others). Please bring your own plates, cutlery or mugs in order to minimise waste. 100 people would mean planting 5-10 saplings each. Mark this date in your diaries now! Come and help offset your carbon usage!
