Net Safety Night at Hillcrest Library

Bevan from Hamilton East

Hey everyone, just letting you know that at the Hillcrest Library, there will be a Net Safety Night on Thursday 29th July at 6pm. The evening will start with a short presentation from Netsafe, and then there will be an open forum where parents and caregivers can ask questions and get advice around some of the threats that their families might encounter online.

Every week in New Zealand, nearly 440 people seek help from Netsafe for online harassment, image-based abuse, hate speech, grooming, scams, and school incidents. So, it's a really good chance to get some in-person help and advice if you're worried about these numbers. There will also be some hard copy resources to take away with you as well.

You can pre-register your interest at the following link (hamiltonlibraries.co.nz...), but you can also simply show up in the evening.

‘Devastated’ Lake Taupō Aqua Park owners first casualty of gold clams

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

The owners of a once popular water park are “absolutely devastated” after becoming the first casualty of freshwater gold clams in the Waikato region.

Lake Taupō Aqua Park will permanently close as a way to ensure the elimination of freshwater clams after being temporarily shuttered in March when Biosecurity New Zealand discovered the presence of the invasive species in the lagoon.
