A contender for Hamilton's mayoralty has advocated selling the city's Claudelands Events Centre if a suitable buyer is found.

Angela O'Learyโ€‹ said selling the showpiece venue would improve the city council's bottom line, with Claudelands notching up yearly operating deficits.

But others disagree.

Carers with no options to take a break are left facing a breakdown themselves, says one advocate.
