After ten years of depression, my life had hit rock bottom

I remember being ‘different’ around food for most of my life. This included things such as being the person who had two cream buns at morning tea when everyone else had one; eating icing sugar by the spoonful directly from the packet; and being the family member who went into the kitchen after dinner to eat the leftovers. There are numerous other examples – too many to list. I could overeat anything. If I couldn’t get my preferred favourites (e.g. chocolate), I’d be eating the vegetables.

The work of CCS Disability Action Waikato makes a huge difference in the lives of disabled people and their whaanau across the Waikato, Coromandel and King Country.

One person who the organisation supports is Matthew Sloane (pictured above), someone who, in his dad David’s words, “spreads joy.”

“Matthew is an incredibly cheerful, friendly person, and that friendliness is contagious,” said David.

The 31-year-old has a learning disability and has been supported by CCS Disability Action’s Waikato branch for around 10 years. He is also employed as a caretaker at the local branch, work he enjoys.

Matthew has a small team of Support Workers who spend time with him each weekday morning and help him to live independently. Every day holds something different. As well as working at CCS Disability Action, he enjoys a regular cycling session and connecting with friends.

My front fence has been damaged on several occasions in the past 6 months. I've reported it to the police but nothing seems to be done about it. Last night I heard a loud bang and thought it was car that smashed into my fence again but only to find out it was a couple of teenagers. My neighbor got into his car and chased after them but they ran down Fairfield college and into the gully. I am quite frustrated because my fence is a boundary line aluminum fence which was quite expensive but it is completely damaged.
I'm just wondering if we should perhaps set up a neighborhood watch if anyone on bankwood rd would be interested, could you pm me please.
