Hamilton Book Month on throughout August
Hamilton Book Month is on again this August with 21 events running through the month. There's fiction, wine writers, storytelling, an open mic night, lit pub quiz, a local authors event, writing competition, a talk by a self-published author about her 65 books, blokes' book club, Witi Ihimaera evening, lit salon, children's and picture book authors etc. There's also workshops on scriptwriting, speculative fiction, writing children's fiction, poetry and memoir. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
