Frustration as Port Waikato grapples with difficult erosion issue

A meeting about options for dealing with erosion battering Port Waikato - described by one expert as “the most difficult coastal erosion issue in New Zealand” - has left some frustrated by Waikato District Council.

Speaking about the meeting held on Sunday, one resident - who wished to remain anonymous - told the Waikato Times they left the meeting with “no real solutions”.

Paula Southgate’s decision not to run for Hamilton mayor this year has turned the spotlight on who’ll replace her, with at least three strong, fiscally “conservative” male possibilities.

There were also longer-shot “maybes” from female councillors on the left of the political spectrum when Waikato Times did a ring-around.
