"Free" Parking

Geoff from Rototuna North

“Free” Parking

Today is the last day for submissions for the “Free” Parking proposal in Central City.
Do you support subsidising businesses in the CBD?
The touted $26 is not a flat rate; it is an addition (increase) to Access Hamilton which is calculated by capital value multiplied by 0.000251. Higher the CV the more you pay.
The “Free” parking proposal is in direct contrast/conflict with the District Plan, the 10 Year Plan and the Central City Transformation Plan. It completely undermines the spirit of these plans.
It is also diametrically opposed to both to the Parking Management Plan and the Active Travel Action Plan with their focus on cycling walking and busing, and is even contradicts the 2017/18 Annual Plan (its own source document).
Council has promised (and documented) rates certainty by 3.8% annual increase for 10 years, this fly’s in the face of that promise. Council’s credibility is at stake and ratepayers will lose trust and are undermining their own credibility, ratepayers no longer believe statements from Council.
Pay for “Free” Parking in the CBD or not?

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
