Tainui drops 1200-home Ruakura development bid
A Ruakura development of about 1200 homes and a new supermarket will not go ahead, with Tainui Group Holdings deciding it is "not the right time" for the project.
The abandoned bid for a plan change sought to rezone about 68ha of Hamilton land for development, which would have been another major step in the city’s eastward expansion.

‘Simply irresponsible’: Wallaby likely kept as pet in Hamilton, regional council says
A wallaby spotted in Hamilton was probably kept as a pet, the regional council says - and that’s “simply irresponsible”.
The dama wallaby, which had an immature joey in its pouch, was spotted in Frankton on March 3, reported and killed, Waikato Regional Council says.
