WOMENS INSTITUTE -THE WI AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND

Noelene from Hamilton Lake

Established 97 years ago the Women's Institute (WI) was at the forefront of communities across New Zealand last week from the 8th October to the 14th October.which was Awareness Week.Life for WI members today is much different from when the organization begun, but the core value remains as relevant today ,to encourage and support all women within their communities, wherever they are whatever their need. With more than 4000 members across the country the organization can be found in cities and small communities with groups as small as six and as large as 80+ with members ranging in age from 10 to over 90.
As a collective, WI members have and are donating knitting to rest homes Hospitals, baking, groceries ,hospital dolls, emergency hospital bags, and many thousands of dollars each year to causes up and down the country.

This also includes supporting$15,000.00 Medical Research Scholarship every two years. This year it was awarded to Dr Jinny Yoon of Auckland University under supervision by Professor Danesh-Meyer researching Nailfold Capillary changes in Glaucoma.
Fun Friendship and making communities a better place to live is at the heart of WI The hugely popular Calendar Girls movie made an impact across the UK and the World and it is hoped that WI Awareness last week will impact across New Zealand.

From rugged campsite to 7.5ha resort

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

Grant Kilby has always loved camping. His mum was director of health at the YMCA, and he would attend YMCA camps in the school holidays. “I think it was mandatory that I was there,” he jokes.

He went on camping holidays with his parents, and later, took his own kids.
“Camping’s been in my blood.”
