When Jasmin Sampson wandered down to her local community house in Hillcrest with a bag of fruit, she had no idea it would snowball into a harvest measured by the hundreds of kilos.
After spotting Go Eco’s food rescue ad for homeowners with excess produce, she signed up — and before long volunteers were in her backyard hauling out crates of grapefruit, lemons, oranges and mandarins. All up? More than 240kg of citrus.

Widow’s fight for change after husband’s ‘blasé’ care at Waikato Hospital
Nigel Dring had looked forward to retirement, but only got months to enjoy it.
His death in July 2023 - two days after a medical appointment - sparked an investigation at Waikato Hospital and his widow says she’s still shocked at “blasé” treatment in the days before he died.
While Nigel had told one doctor he was “really struggling to breathe”, no-one made them feel like he was in danger, Lynn Dring said.
