The pungent aroma around Waikato’s ‘weed roundabout’ has also been noticed by police, at least according to one person living near to the new, $60m Piarere roundabout.
In the wake of reporting the noticeable, pungent cannabis like smell wafting around the new roundabout - something the New Zealand Transport Agency, and social media users have picked up on - the Waikato Times approached a number of properties close to the site.

Widow’s fight for change after husband’s ‘blasé’ care at Waikato Hospital
Nigel Dring had looked forward to retirement, but only got months to enjoy it.
His death in July 2023 - two days after a medical appointment - sparked an investigation at Waikato Hospital and his widow says she’s still shocked at “blasé” treatment in the days before he died.
While Nigel had told one doctor he was “really struggling to breathe”, no-one made them feel like he was in danger, Lynn Dring said.
