Waikato regional councillors clash over consultant costs

Waikato Regional Council chairperson Pamela Storey has accused council members of spreading misinformation about spending on consultants, but they say the information came directly from council staff.

Storey said figures released by councillors who have joined forces as the Rates Control Team are misleading, and undermine “trust in democracy”.

Widow’s fight for change after husband’s ‘blasé’ care at Waikato Hospital

Nigel Dring had looked forward to retirement, but only got months to enjoy it.

His death in July 2023 - two days after a medical appointment - sparked an investigation at Waikato Hospital and his widow says she’s still shocked at “blasé” treatment in the days before he died.

While Nigel had told one doctor he was “really struggling to breathe”, no-one made them feel like he was in danger, Lynn Dring said.
