On a quiet corner of Rimu Street in Maeroa, a modest lunch bar has turned into an international food destination, all thanks to a pie that most people never imagined would exist.

Eighty8 Lunch Bar, co-owned by Kim and Ra Sok, has built a reputation for seafood pies so unusual – and so beloved – that people now fly in from overseas and get their hands on them.

Widow’s fight for change after husband’s ‘blasé’ care at Waikato Hospital

Nigel Dring had looked forward to retirement, but only got months to enjoy it.

His death in July 2023 - two days after a medical appointment - sparked an investigation at Waikato Hospital and his widow says she’s still shocked at “blasé” treatment in the days before he died.

While Nigel had told one doctor he was “really struggling to breathe”, no-one made them feel like he was in danger, Lynn Dring said.
