Tamahere’s controversial chicanes unlikely to return
Controversial chicanes laid out on Birchwood Lane in Tamahere are unlikely to return, and the speed limit left at 50kph, until this summer at least says the Waikato District Council.
The chicanes were vandalised and quietly removed at the end of July but a survey of locals about what to do produced inconclusive results, leaving members of the council’s Tamahere Community Committee to decide on their fate.

Widow’s fight for change after husband’s ‘blasé’ care at Waikato Hospital
Nigel Dring had looked forward to retirement, but only got months to enjoy it.
His death in July 2023 - two days after a medical appointment - sparked an investigation at Waikato Hospital and his widow says she’s still shocked at “blasé” treatment in the days before he died.
While Nigel had told one doctor he was “really struggling to breathe”, no-one made them feel like he was in danger, Lynn Dring said.
