Thames Coromandel snubbed by the Western Bay, left out of waters group

Thames Coromandel District Council’s attempts to join a multi-council water services group have been blocked by one of the councils involved, leaving it to fend for itself.

The snub has seen the council call on the Government to appoint a facilitator to resolve the impasse which has been labelled “a surprise at the 11th hour” by deputy mayor Terry Walker.

Widow’s fight for change after husband’s ‘blasé’ care at Waikato Hospital

Nigel Dring had looked forward to retirement, but only got months to enjoy it.

His death in July 2023 - two days after a medical appointment - sparked an investigation at Waikato Hospital and his widow says she’s still shocked at “blasé” treatment in the days before he died.

While Nigel had told one doctor he was “really struggling to breathe”, no-one made them feel like he was in danger, Lynn Dring said.
