City signals 10%-plus rates rises
Hamiltonians face 10%-plus city rates rises for at least the next three years due to big cost increases, council leaders warn.
It comes as the mayor and councillors start grappling with budgets for the 2024-34 long term plan (LTP), acutely aware that big rises will likely rile residents.
Mayor Paula Southgate said she was “super gutted” to put this to residents but the council had no choice.

Poll: Should Tīrau get a Burger King and Starbucks?
The South Waikato town of Tīrau could be in line for a corporate fast food takeover if consent is given for the building of a Starbucks and Burger King on the main drag though town.
But, some locals don’t think the corporate giants are the right fit for the town known for its boutique cafes, antique shops and corrugated iron inspired art works and facades.
