Mike Walen is a self-taught professional photographer whose business success has been entirely driven by word-of-mouth endorsement.

Now KeyImagery, Mike’s Hamilton-based firm, has become a Momentum Waikato Partner business.

With a knack for the social side of snapping people, Mike really enjoys event photography.

“Three quarters of what I do is about being able to socialise with people, I’m not scared of approaching them to ask if I can take their photo,” says Mike.

“Nothing I love more than going along and mingling.”

Events are the “bread and butter” for KeyImagery, which takes Mike to civic, school and sports gatherings across the central North Island. He’s also been the photographer-of-record at international marathons overseas.

The opening of the Waikato Regional Theatre in downtown Hamilton next year will trigger a major evolutionary leap for the city’s nightlife.

That’s the prediction from Waikato Regional Theatre general manager Gus Sharp, who says he will be eagerly awaiting to see what changes will be spurred by the addition of the new 1300-seat theatre to Hamilton.

And Sharp has some personal experience of such changes, having been involved in the $42 million revamp of the revered Saint James Theatre in central Wellington.

As the designated first aider, Adrian needs to be ready for action at any point.

One night a tutor called, concerned for a student having an unexpected diabetic low. Adrian had managed to devour all the Minties in the office so they had to come up with a solution. Fate has it, the Cake Decorating class was running and they always have chocolate.

So Adrian explained the situation and was given a handful of emergency chocolate. We were delighted when it was reported that the chocolate did the trick and the student was able to continue with their class that evening.

Life in Addictive Eaters Anonymous provides me with the freedom to have great adventures

Before I came into the fellowship of Addictive Eaters Anonymous, I lived full of fear, resentment, self-pity, shame, and self-obsession. My eating was completely out of control and I could no longer stop eating even though I really wanted to and went to great lengths to try and stop. My world became a small and lonely existence where the only thing I looked forward to was hiding out with my food. There was no room for adventure in my life.

EarthDiverse is pleased to announce it's newest Philosophy course, entitled "Philosophers Behaving Badly" available both in-person (in Hamilton, New Zealand) or live-streamed via Zoom to anywhere in the world with a decent internet connection.

How often do philosophers of ethics call their mothers? We expect philosophers (lovers of wisdom), to live up to their ideals – those involved in the pursuit of virtue and truth. With a nod to the book of the same name, this 4-week course expands on this theme and examines philosophers who’ve fallen short of this standard, beginning with Socrates and on up to modern times with thinkers like Nietzsche and Heidegger. It’s the old adage – do as I say, not do as I do.

Course begins on Wednesday mornings 11:00am-1:00pm starting 26 July 2023 (NZ time).
For other time zone equivalents around the world please visit the course page at courses.earthdiverse.org.nz...
Please note that this course takes place over 4 consecutive weekly sessions only.
