Refugee Support Volunteer Training - September
Hello neighbours,
We are just left with two more intakes for this year. So, again here is another opportunity to help out in our community and to become a Refugee Support Volunteer (RSV) with the Red Cross. RSVs are placed in teams to assist newly arrived refugees during their first 3-6 months in Hamilton. The support is very practical: setting up a house, showing the new arrivals around Hamilton, assisting them with doctors, schools, grocery shopping etc... As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
