Internet Fraudsters

Jeff from Saint Andrews

Welcome to the New Year new Internet Scammer Tricks. My friend recently told me how she had someone call to say her computer had a problem with Windows and oh amazingly this caller works for Windows but also amazingly my friend doesn't even have a computer!. I don't believe we've had an April Fools day yet therefore clearly these mongrels of society are trying to rip people off yet again. I asked for their official government reference but they kept on saying I have a Windows fault. When I told them prove themselves or I would call the Police they sort of counted one, two, three hang up. So I called the Police and left a detailed note of everything as calling the Police immediately this happens makes it easier for them to find the fraudsters yet unfortunately the more complaints the better but make sure you have fairly exact details. With Caller ID it comes up as Unavailable which is so typical of fraudsters hence why I believe Caller ID to ignore hidden phone numbers from wasting precious time is very helpful. Please no-one fall for this fraud and lets help catch these online fraudsters.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?

Poll: Are you a Te Huia fan?

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

All three Hamilton MPs appear to be united behind the retention of the Te Huia passenger rail service between Hamilton and Auckland, as well as potentially expanding it to Tauranga.

But whether Hamilton East’s Ryan Hamilton, Hamilton West’s Tama Potaka and soon-to-be Labour list MP Georgie Dansey have the combined power to shunt transport minister Chris Bishop and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon onto their line of thinking remains to be seen.

Are you a Te Huia fan? Tell us more in the comments (adding NFP if you don't want your words used in print).

The Waikato really copped it over the weekend, with wild weather leaving a hefty clean-up bill that may run into the millions.

While things are looking calmer in the days ahead, there are still plenty of slips and flooded roads across the district — so if you’re heading out, take it easy and stay alert.

We want to know: How did you and your whānau get on over the weekend?
