HCC is allowing high profile anti-vaxxer and 5G conspiracy theorist Billy Te Kahika to use publicly owned facilities in Hamilton Gardens to push his false and dishonest message encouraging vulnerable elderly and unwell people to spurn the life-saving Covid vaccine. The excuse given by bureaucrats for allowing this meeting is "freedom of speech", which is a farcical misuse of this expression, given the amount of deliberate and dangerous misinformation these disease peddlers repeat, and the devastating effect that illegal anti-vaxx protests have had on the latest spread of the Delta variant in NSW. Derelict Tokanui Hospital site in line for a clean-up
Derelict Tokanui Hospital buildings will be demolished and contaminated land cleaned up so the site can be offered back to iwi.
The former psychiatric hospital, southeast of Te Awamutu, sits on land taken from Ngāti Maniapoto under the Public Works Act in 1910.
