Ex-Tropical Cyclone Gita is expected to make landfall on the northwest of the South Island this evening, with warnings of torrential rain and winds of up to 150kmh.

Schools across the region are closed for 48-hours (check the link to see if your school is closed, as well as the latest on the storm).
