Gore council to get tougher on water

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Gore District Council is preparing to lock-down on water use as it suspects water carriers may have taken more water than has been reported in the past. Gore and Mataura townships both struggled with water issues last summer, and high level water restrictions were put in place for a period of time.

Council members have voted to spend $35,000 to install a permanently installed backflow protection device and mechanical flow meter, with some simple form of locking system. Water carriers will require a key or combination code to access the facility.

It was suggested the the bulk filling station be located near the intersection of River St and Bury St in Gore, with no bulk filling station being provided in Mataura.

Due to short water supply, the council has employed a water diviner and identified six sites where water could be obtained for the town supply. Permission has been obtained from Environment Southland to undertake test drilling, which will happen in the next few weeks.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
