BRANZ, an independent research organisation, says:
• 42% to 45% of heat in houses insulated to Pre-2007 requirements is lost through windows.
• If your home has been built or renovated under the 2007 Building Code, which requires double glazing, you still lose up to 31% of heat through windows.
• Properly fitted curtains and blinds can cut heat loss through single glazed windows by 60% and double glazed windows by 40-50%.
Choosing the right window treatments will help insulate windows and prevent heat loss. Here are three options to answer your "how can I warm up my home?" this winter.
Honeycomb Blinds
Honeycomb blinds are one of the most energy-efficient window treatments. They are also known as honeycomb or cellular shades. These window coverings feature a honeycomb structure to make an air pocket between the window glass and the room that acts as an insulator, blocking heat and keeping the cold out.
When a heater is running, Honeycomb blinds reduce heat loss through windows by up to 60%, which equals around 10% savings on your heating energy. In hotter months, honeycomb blinds reduce unwanted heat from the sun through windows by up to 60% when installed with a tight fit. They are available in different layering options, including single and double-cell.
Heavy curtains or drapes
Drapes or curtains are another way to insulate your home by adding one extra barrier against the cold winter air. The main difference is that curtains are sized to fit the window, and drapes reach the floor.

I found myself in an interesting position today..
I went down to save mart Levin with my toddler today to have a look around and find some bargains.
I was stopped at the door pritty quickly and was then told I can not have my hand bag in the store.. her words were leave it in the car or leave it up at the counter...
Now I will admit I did see the sign but I was abit shocked as my hand bag is not a huge one I really didn't think it was going to be an issue well boy I was wrong.
Now I would totally understand if I had a big backpack or a extra large handbag
But the thing is my car is a keyless entry so if I was to "leave my bag in the car" any jo blogs could jump in and zoom off , if I was to bring my keys in I am then juggling keys, a wallet and a toodler all whilst looking for my bargains.
There was no way I felt comfortable leaveing my bag at the counter because by the way they act about theft ect.. how am I to know that my handbag is even safe behind their counter?
I am just abit shocked about the while experience and so bummed as I left because I did not feel safe leaving my bag anywhere but my shoulder! I have never experienced anything like this before
My question is have any of you? Am I over reacting? What do you guys think has this happened to anyone els?

What I got was 1 chair and footstool and 1 bed with high feet. Now I had paid over $8k for the furniture and had to wait 5 weeks for delivery. So was I happy? Nope not happy, stressed, upset but not happy. I was in full "karen* mode. The business I was dealing with BIG Save, yeap a local business who failed majorly on this. I was told once missing chair was found it could take 2-3 days to be delivered, after waiting 5 weeks already and it was 1 of them that lost it? I don't think so. The chair had been with rest of order but had been taken to Napier instead. I tried to talk to regional manager but they were in a meeting but would "call me back" still waiting on that call. I did get a call to say rest of order will be here today. Yeah not holding my breath it will be correct. This has been a complete disaster. Will never deal with BIG SAVE again. Has anyone else have this happen to them?
Update order arrive correct this time. Yea. However it seems my chair was in warehouse the whole time but someone had sold it and a different person's name on it destined for Palmy! So not only did I receive only half my order but big porkies told to me as well. Lovely dealing with a local company NOT!!!
