Lake Horowhenua

Joan from Levin

Another $12.5 million is to be spent on 'cleaning up' the Lake. Thats over and above the already spent $7 million plus on a 'clean up' that never achieved results. It seems strange that Horowhenua District Council intend spending this money whilst at the same time nitrite spilloffs will continue to pour into the lake, from agricultural and dairying practices in the surrounding area. Alongside that in the Adoption of the Annual Plan 2020, HDC plan that 'Council officers continue working towards acquiring a discharge consent for stormwater from Councils stormwater network to Lake Horowhenua from Horizons Regional Council'. Does anyone besides me find that counterproductive to spend so much money on a Lake cleanup while continuing to pour heavy metals and other contaminants into the Lake?
