In 2014 I spent a day in Petone & Wellington with an architect taking photos for a book she was writing. I was intrigued by what I spied behind a second floor window in Petone. The curtain was pulled back to exhibit a pair of knickers. I couldn't resist the urge to photograph the scene even though it was probably not relevant to architecture. "Confessions from a Heritage Architect" is the title of a 2017 book by New Zealand architect Mona Quinn, which features photographs and stories about New Zealand's character homes, specifically villas and bungalows. The book was a result of road trips Quinn took with photographer Paul Knight to explore these homes and interview their owners.
