In all my years of being in the food industry the milk I received from Manna Milk was the best quality I have ever seen, it is beautiful, thick and creamy with a buttery hue. It has made some outstanding cheese as well. Since MPI's over zealous shutdown I have no where to buy Cows milk from. I support local business and never fonterra who almost have a complete monopoly on the industry. The milk at the supermarket in comparison to the milk from Manna Milk is disgusting, watery and over priced crap.
MPI have shut them down based on possibility as it is possible to get some nasty "bugs"from raw milk. I have not been able to locate anyone that has become Ill from their product. At all. Vastly more people get sick from chicken every year that people that get sick from raw milk and I don't see Teagle being shut down regardless of the horrific conditions Chickens live their short lives in.
The shut down of Manna Milk can be viewed as an attack on our rights to be able to feed our self with our chosen products. It is most definitely an over reaction and it is completely unacceptable. It is our choice to be able to get raw milk and no one has the right to stop us.
MPI are not protecting anyone by doing this. It was barely 100 years ago that raw milk was more than common. Humans have been consuming it since we started consuming the milk of other species. If the biggest out break of campylobacter (Timaru) due to contaminated raw milk in NZ is only 7 people. That is not enough to warrant the type of behavior MPI have exhibited.
I ask you all to support Manna Milk in this situation, it is grossly unfair on them and their share holders and it is destruction of a local business forcing them to have to give their milk to fonterra, furthering their monopoly. The NZ dairy industry seems to have a corruption issue and it seems to be enforced in a way, by MPI. Support locals and their businesses and not multi billion dollar organizations that would have all competition shut down if they could.
