Are curtains good for insulation?
- Absolutely. Curtains reduce the amount of air exchange between a cold window and the rest of the room. For keeping heat inside the home, high quality curtains can reduce heat loss by around 40%, particularly if they are floor length and close to the wall and window panes. The insulation efficiency depends on the fabric type (closed or open weave), colour and weight.
While double-glazing is another effective method of preventing heat loss from windows, curtains and drapes can also make a room look and feel cosier when it’s cold outside, particularly if you choose plush or heavy fabrics.

Dear Teara Atawai,
I understand that the Government’s new water protection agency - Taumata Arowai - is proposing to increase the allowable limits of 17 toxic and poisonous substances in drinking water and that there will be no limit at all for the amount of nitrates in drinking water.
I am dismayed and deeply disappointed that a New Zealand government would consider any relaxation of drinking water standards. I have considerable knowledge regarding the cumulative and long-term effects on a population of toxic chemicals and elements in water. I lived for years in Japan during the 1960s and repeatedly in later decades as well. From 1969, for 34 years I lectured on Japanese history and current affairs at a New Zealand university. Environmental pollution and solutions were very important issues then as now but we should learn from past mistakes. That our government would allow industry, agriculture and city populations even greater freedom to pollute is for me anyway, beyond belief.

* It's very light and easy to tow, and for one person to move around
* The camper is 3.1M long X 1.9M wide X 2.2M high
* The awning is 2.8M long X 2.05M wide
* Timber interior recently repainted
* New floor covering recently installed
* New timber bench tops installed
* All window and door zips work well
* Stays dry inside: even in heavy rain
* Comes with 2 camp stretchers and mattresses for use in the awning
* The usual bumps, chips, and bruises you expect in a vehicle this age
