Artist Showcase: Julia Tanner
Julia Tanner is a Palmerston North artist whose paintings draw inspiration from the works of Van Gogh. When she was starting out, Julia would enlarge some of Van Gogh’s Iris and Sunflower paintings using a similar technique – thick paint, no blended brushstrokes. In developing her own style, Julia she continues to use thick impasto and minimal blending with the aim of producing paintings reminiscent of stained glass.
Recently, Julia has been focusing on painting other flowers, including New Zealand natives such as the kowhai.
Julia joined the Feilding and District Art Society in March this year and will be exhibiting Flowers - an exhibition exploring her Van Gogh-inspired works – in January 2023.
