Hey neighbours,

In the lead up to the 2020 election, Stuff is keeping voters up to date with what’s happening in their electorate, through Neighbourly. Here’s what you need to know about the candidates in the running to be Te Tai Hauāuru's MP.

At the October 17 election, New Zealanders will have the opportunity to choose their regional spokesperson.

Through the Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system, those enrolled can vote for the party they want as well as a local representative.

Why does my MP matter?

The person elected will be the voice for your region in Parliament. If you’re having trouble getting entitlements or dealing with Government departments, they can help. If your community needs funding for certain projects or activities, or there isn’t enough healthcare in the area, the elected MP can step in and help.

Hi! I'm so excited to finally be sharing a project our team has been working on for a while now: First Rung, our first podcast!
First Rung is packed with tips, advice and anecdotes from experts and home owners on every aspect of buying your first home - it also comes with a chance to win a $500 Resene prize pack.
Over six, bite sized episodes, we cover everything from saving that deposit, to sunset clauses, to how to get your newly purchased home ready to move into.
We'll also introduce you to ordinary Kiwis, just like you, who have navigated the choppy waters of home buying in NZ and made it onto that first rung - and pick their brains for how they did it.
We all know buying a home is one of the toughest, most daunting things we might ever do as adults, so it doesn't hurt to get some expert advice and support. That's what we wanted to give you with First Rung.
So give it a listen and let us know what you think - and be in to win that mint Resene prize pack. I can't enter and I'm well jealous!

Drop in to the Feilding and Districts Art Society from Monday to see the latest exhibition by Esther Nitschke MBE and her talented family.
A Family Affair of Fibre Art running 5 – 23 October
.
Esther Nitschke, a Feilding local, is a renowned weaver and national treasure with three of her woven garments held in the collection at Te Papa and a long history of accolades and awards. The exhibition will be shared by 6 talented family members, spanning 3 generations.

Esther Nitschke MBE
Esther has been weaving for over 57 years and one of her very first exhibitions was at the Feilding Art Centre. Esther will be exhibiting her weaving and felting work and is thrilled to share this exhibition, back at the Feilding Art Centre, with her extremely talented family.

Sandra Hall
Sandra is an internationally recognised fibre artist in her own right. Sandra ran a successful smocking business for nearly 30 years but in 2010 whilst preparing for an exhibition on Waiheke Island she felt the need to change it up and add textile art to the exhibition. Sandra’s contemporary work incorporates copper, rusted old table cloths and doilies, pianola rolls, handmade silk paper, and discarded items juxtaposed against delicate needle craft. The result is stunning.

Neville Nitschke
Neville is based in Marton and has had an interesting variety of jobs over the years but it was working in tree felling that led to his interest in furniture making. Neville allows the shape and grain of the timbre to dictate what final object will be. All of the pieces in the exhibition have been milled by Neville himself.

Stephanie Hall
Esther taught her granddaughter Stephanie to weave and she now weaves on a loom made by her late grandfather Bruce Nitschke. Stephanie say’s “Since starting knitting and weaving there is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t pick up the needles or shuttle and I find the planning and calculations speak to my analytical brain and the motion and creation is meditative”.

Michael Wells
Michael has been a member of the Kimbolton Fire Service for 20 years. He started experimenting with airbrush art whilst he had a young family but stepped away from it as life became busy. Recently has been honing his skills and enjoying creating again as he prepares for the upcoming exhibition.

Jackson Wells
10 year old Jackson brings us a photographic masterpiece - a self portrait he captured whilst riding his bike.
