Manawatu Art Expo Begins Tomorrow!

The Feilding & District Art Society

It’s hard to believe that Manawatū Art Expo begins tomorrow!
From July 15 to 17, a $5 entry ticket unlocks the possibilities of seeing and experiencing great New Zealand art. You’ll also be able to get up close and personal with the artists behind the work, with talks and demos taking place throughout Expo weekend.

One of the artists you’ll get to meet is not only the subject of our final Artist A Day post, but our 2022 Guest Artist: Vonnie Sterritt.

Though born in Otago, it’s difficult not to claim Vonnie as a Palmerston North icon. As a landscape painter, scenes of the Manawatū feature heavily in Vonnie’s oeuvre. She explains that “growing up within the surrounds of the Clutha and now the Manawatū rivers mean water described gorges and plains are so much a part of who I am […] I am convinced there is a connection between painter and landscape that is emotionally intimate. My particular connection is the Manawatu river and the way old macrocarpa and Nikau punctuate this regions' landscape.”

Vonnie works from her studio right here in Palmerston North, but her work appears in collections around the world. She has exhibited as far afield as Canada in the United States, and she’s been showing her work at Manawatū Art Expo since its inception in 2007.

As our 2022 Guest Artist, Vonnie hopes to “wow” visitors. She will be doing this not only by exhibiting her work, but also holding talks and live painting sessions.

You can learn more about Vonnie’s work at www.artsterritt.co.nz... but nothing can compare to meeting Vonnie and experiencing her work in-person!

You’ll find Vonnie right by the entrance to Manawatū Art Expo – Palmerston North Conference and Function Centre – July 15 to 17 – Open from 9am to 4.30pm each day – Entry is $5 with under 14s free

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.

Automation (or the “unpaid shift”) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.

Wanted: Older Female Rabbit to Adopt

Natasha from Ashhurst - Pohangina

I'm looking for an older female rabbit to adopt as a companion for my desexed male Arlo.

He is sweet but a little bit bossy so an ideal companion would be gentle and happy to let him wear the pants, so to speak.

Once bonded they would live their best rabbit lives sharing a large insulated hutch in a 20m x 3m outside enclosure on a lovely peaceful farm in Ashhurst.

His female companion recently passed away and he is really missing having the company of another rabbit.

Time to Tickle Your Thinker 🧠

The Riddler from The Neighbourly Riddler

If a zookeeper had 100 pairs of animals in her zoo, and two pairs of babies are born for each one of the original animals, then (sadly) 23 animals don’t survive, how many animals do you have left in total?

Do you think you know the answer? Simply 'Like' this post and we'll post the answer in the comments below at 2pm on the day!
