Celebrate Matariki with Schoc and great local events!

Sara Renall from

Matariki is fast approaching and there are some amazing ways to celebrate right here in the Wairarapa!

Greytown's Schoc Chocolate have created a Matariki inspired chocolate block, reminiscent of smoky fire and kūmara. The story behind the creation lies in the tradition of coming together around bonfires just before dawn to witness the Matariki stars appear. This time is also important for reflection, making plans for the future and planting kūmara crops for the season ahead.

For more information and to taste for yourself, call in and see Murray and the team at Schoc Chocolate in Greytown between 10am and 4.30pm, Monday to Sunday.

Additional Matariki celebrations our members are hosting include:
- Ngā Haerenga/ Journeys – Celebrating Matariki at Aratoi
- Matariki Glow Show at the Carterton Events Centre
- Matariki and the Winter Solstice at Stonehenge Aotearoa
- Stargazing accelerator and Telescope course at Star Safari
- Featherston Matariki Evening Festival
- Festival of Christmas: Celebrate Matariki at Cobblestones

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
