South Wairarapa District Council yesterday voted to join Wellington Water as a shareholder and become a client of its three waters management services.

Mayor Viv Napier said Council’s decision was a positive step for the community.

"Wellington Water is a large, specialist provider focused on delivering excellence in three waters services. It has demonstrated its commitment working with each of its councils to understand their priorities and deliver on their long term plans.

"South Wairarapa has its own distinct needs for water services, and I’m confident Wellington Water will take a customer-first approach in working with council and residents to understand and meet the needs of our customers."

If you're planning to enjoy the long weekend with some recreational boating, we've got some top tips!

As we’re going into colder weather it becomes more important to keep safety a top priority. Did you know that in water, the body loses heat 20 to 30 times faster than it does in air! 😲 We encourage boaties to remember these five simple precautions:

• Wear your lifejacket
• Take two waterproof ways to call for help
• Check the marine weather forecast
• Avoid alcohol
• Be a responsible skipper

And remember, if in doubt, don’t go out 🐟

Whether you're a dab hand at DIY or a recycling rookie, why not make good use of the Easter break and show your neighbours your upcycling talents in the 2019 Resene Upcycling Awards!

Upcycling is all about taking a preloved item and transforming it - whether it's turning old skateboards into a coffee table, pallets into a home entertainment unit or repurposing an old baby cot into a desk for your little learners.

Unleash your creativity on your neighbourhood by sharing your creation in this year's Resene Upcycling Awards. Make sure you tell us about any Resene paints, colours and stains you've used - and don't forget your before and after photos. You could win one of four prizes worth $500!
