MILES, Judith

9.4.1941 — 22.01.2023
Passed away at Nelson Hospital after a short illness. Much loved mother and mother-in-law of Dianne and Brendan (Auckland), Claire and Shawn (Nelson), and Bryce (Whangarei). A loving grandmother to Ben, Sophia, Sarah, Ethan, Joshua, Melissa, Rhiannon and Keaton. A Memorial Service will be held at Shone and Shirley Funeral Home, at 1.00pm on Thursday, January 26. ANDERSON, Mary Elizabeth

Known to all as Betty, died on January 20, 2023, aged 93 years. Only daughter of the late Alexander and Margaret May Anderson. Betty was born in Rotherham Hospital and spent her early years at Terako (Waiau), with her elder brothers, William, Robert, and Douglas (all deceased). She trained as a Karitane nurse and was pleased to share her knowledge with her grand-niece and enjoyed her great-grand-nieces in her much later years. Betty provided care and companionship to her mother and brother Bob (Robert) as they aged at the family home in Rangiora. She was also kind of heart and generous towards her nephew and nieces. Betty was feisty and independent of mind, but eventually needed care herself which she found at the Homestead Ilam.
Sadly missed by family, friends and neighbours.

WHITAKER, Raymond John (Ray) (Poppa)

After a courageous battle, Ray passed away peacefully at Hospice Southland on Monday, January 23, 2023. Much loved husband and best friend of Carolyn. Devoted and loving father and father-in-law of Marcus, Scott and Amanda, and Louise. A very proud Poppa of Claudia, the late Emma-Rose, Isobel, Charlie, Hollie and Leilah. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Colin and Christine, Glenda and Brian Brown (Alexandra), and Judy and Bill Beaumont (Nelson). Dearly loved son and son-in-law of the late Ev and Ivan Whitaker, and the late Norma and Perc Edney. Much loved uncle of all his nieces and nephews. The Whitaker family wishes to thank Dr Neil Cremasco and staff at Hospice Southland for taking exceptional care of our hero. A service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held at J Fraser and Sons, Corner Esk and Doon Streets, Invercargill, on Friday, January 27 at 2.00pm, followed by a private cremation. Passed away suddenly after a short illness on Monday 23 January 2023 surrounded by his family, aged 73. Loved and treasured husband of Viv, devoted father, father-in-law and grandfather to Oliver and Kara, Nathan and Nic, Megan, Miriana, Manaia, Ashley, Taane, Emily and Jackson. Loved brother of Sandy and best mate to Poppy the dog. A service to celebrate the mighty life of Jim will be held at Eastern Suburbs Rugby Sports Club, Friday 27 January at 12 noon, followed by a private burial. Unexpectedly on 22 January 2023 at Palmerston North Hospital, aged 91 years. Beloved husband of the late Patricia. Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Peter (dec) and Priscilla, Andrew, Malcolm, Anna, Hamish and Kim, and Mark and Pip. Loved Poppa of Annabelle, Marie and DJ; Ashlee; Troy; Angus; Matt and Alex. A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at the Terracehaven Chapel, 697 Main Street, Palmerston North, on Friday 27th January at 10.30am. Much loved husband of Joy, father of Katherine, and the late Tania. Grandfather of Kriss, Courtny and Ava, and great grandfather of Isla. A man who faced great adversity with courage and patience is finally at peace and pain free. A Memorial Service for Mike will be held at Rosewood, 415 Queen Street, Masterton on Friday 27 January at 1.00pm.

Passed away peacefully on 22nd January 2023. Father to Nicola, Simone, Shelley and Brett, father-in-law to Murray and Cam, grandfather to Aisha, Liam, Caleb, Rian, Emily, Jackson and Noah, brother to Beatrice and Frank, brother-in-law to Colin and Juen, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Dad, Laurence, Laurie, Grandad, we will miss you always. Rest in Peace now, until we meet again.
Our sincere thanks to the staff and caregivers at Radius Care for their absolute respect and compassion in Dad’s final months. Following Laurence’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place.

Suddenly on 3 January 2023 in Wellington. Wife of David (deceased), loving mother of Helen, and mother-in-law of Joseph.
