LEES-JEFFRIES, Sarah Christina

Born Suva, Fiji, 13 January 1942, died at home in Christchurch, 11 February 2023. MA (University of New Zealand, 1963), English teacher at Christchurch Girls’ High School 1966-8, 1973-2001, Head of English 1986-2001. Beloved wife of Peter (dec. 1992). Eldest daughter of Rolf and Elima Lamberg. Indomitable mother and mother-in-law of Hester (Cambridge, UK) and Susannah and Mark Cookson (Wellington). Glorious Sebba to her 2 adored grandchildren, Laura and Benjamin. Cherished elder sister of Bill Lamberg (Connecticut, USA), John and Clare Lamberg (Christchurch), Karen and Ian Brown (Havelock North), Jane and David Harding (Hastings), and Betty and Ian McNeill (Perth, WA). Loved and respected aunt of Matthew and Vanessa; Philip, Joanne and Rolf; Miles; Campbell, Michael and Gareth; Kirsty and Callum, and their partners, and wise great-aunt of many more. Proud and loving godmother to David, Dan, Edward, Lizzy and Matthew. A special thank you to all the family and friends who have supported us with so many kinds of love over the last few months and many years, especially John, Clare, Philip, Megan, Jack, Austin and Baxter Lamberg, our home team, Dr Rhian Roberts (Waltham Medical Centre) and Dee, a nurse of great gifts, and the Access palliative care team who were kind and practical and gave us strength. Sarah’s funeral service will be at St Mark’s Church, Opawa Road, Christchurch, on Wednesday 15 February at 2.00pm, where she was a parishioner for 50 years.
