The role of Santa Claus in this year's Orewa Santa Parade was advertised online, with organisers adamant the person in the big red suit could only be a man. Should a man be the only gender to to fill Santa's boots?

Mayoral contender John Tamihere is pledging to freeze rates for three years if elected in October. At a time when Auckland needs to build more infrastructure and improve services, Tamihere thinks the loss of $86 million a year in council revenue, is viable. Do you agree? Read the story below.

To create safer, more caring communities we need to not only look after ourselves but those around us as well.
For the month of September, we want to use our voice to raise awareness for mental health and well-being. Perhaps consider sharing a cuppa with someone you know who could use the support or challenge your family and friends to unplug from social media for the entire month to improve their well-being. If you or someone you know is going through a rough patch, don’t forget you can call or text 1737 anytime for FREE support from a trained counsellor.
Don’t forget, this month also coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th) followed by Mental Health Awareness Week (23 - 29 September) and Mental Health Awareness Day on October 10th.
However you choose to take part, feel free to tag us in your posts + use the following hashtag so we can see how you’re cultivating better mental health for yourself or in your community this month:

Torbay Plunket are currently having some landscaping work done at the front of the clinic and as part of this we are going to be creating an outdoor play area.
If anyone has a small wooden row boat that they no longer need and would be happy to donate to us, it would be much appreciated.
It does not matter if the boat is damaged, as we are planning on painting it etc. before installing it in the play area.
So please get in touch if you, or anyone you know, may have something that would be suitable.
Thanks for supporting Torbay Plunket!

Eggplant is definitely a popular ingredient in Russian and Ukrainian cooking and it tastes amazing when prepared correctly.
Ingredients for Eggplant Spread Recipe:
2 big eggplants, peeled and diced
2 bell peppers (preferably red, yellow, or orange), diced
2 to 3 medium carrots, grated
1 medium onion, finely diced
3 medium tomatoes
1 tsp salt, or to taste
1/2 tsp black pepper, or to taste
Extra light olive oil to sauté
How to Make Sauteed Eggplant Spread:
1. Place a large non-stick pan over medium/ high heat and add 3-4 Tbsp oil. Add eggplant and saute, stirring occasionally until softened and moist (15-20 min), adding more oil if needed to keep it from sticking to the bottom.
2. At the same time, in a separate large skillet, add 2 Tbsp oil, diced bell pepper, grated carrots and finely diced onion. Saute until golden and softened (10-15 minutes). Combine with eggplant mixture
3. Add diced tomatoes, season with 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. It is done when there is no liquid pooling and the mixture is a spreadable and still somewhat chunky consistency.
Serve eggplant spread with crusty bread. So delicious!
Moreover you can buy different kinds of eggplant spread in our store.
