Calls for action after latest crash at notorious Canterbury intersection

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

Tina Dudley is grateful she is not organising her daughter’s funeral after a crash at a notorious North Canterbury hotspot - the Tram Rd overbridge - last week.

According to NZTA data, there have been 60 crashes on the section of the Tram Rd overbridge between the off and on-ramps since the start of 2000.

Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey said he was angry about the latest crash, after championing for better visibility over the bridge.

An NZTA spokeswoman said motorists needed to heed the road markings – a painted line and stop sign – and check each way before turning.

“Staff are looking at ways to make both sides operate in as safe a way as they can. However, people do need to obey the stop sign.’’
