Local opinion needed on proposal to reduce pokies

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The public will have a chance to influence how pokie machine numbers in Nelson are controlled, councillors were divided about the best method. A proposal to change gambling machine regulations was approved for public consultation at a Nelson City Council meeting last week.

The current proposal includes:
- Reducing the cap on the number of gaming machines allowed to operate in the district.
- Introducing location requirements for new venues, which would prevent them from being located in areas of high deprivation.
- Reducing the limit of the number of Class 4 gaming machines (commonly known as pokies) allowed at new venues
- Making a number of editorial amendments to the Policy.

You are invited to have your say here, submission close 24 October 2018.
