According to Orion's website approximately 50,000 properties had no power on Thursday morning.
Power outages have been reported at many suburbs including Addington, Cashmere, Spreydon, Riccarton, Sydenham, Hoon Hay Valley, Wigram, Tai Tapu, Sockburn, Westmorland, Wigram and Akaroa.
The New Zealand Transport Authority said signals at 35 intersections were out in south Christchurch as a result of the outage. Road users were asked to apply the give way rules.
An Orion spokeswoman said
the power outage was caused by an issue in the Transpower line from Twizel. Transpower manage the national electricity grid.
A crash involving four vehicles happened the intersection of Marshland Rd and Prestons Rd. An Ambulance was declined but NZTA advised motorists that delays were possible.

We recently lost our 6 year old foxy X very suddenly due to illness. Our Labrador is very lonely without his wee mate. Just putting it out there is case someone has to rehome their fur baby. Can offer a good home, fully fenced section, sleep inside, regular walks etc. I've also been looking at the rescue shelters but they mainly have larger dogs.
