Popular Christchurch bar Viaduct finally returns after post-quake hiatus

Jake Kenny Reporter from Community News

The latest addition to The Terrace in central Christchurch may be familiar to a few.

After being closed for nearly a decade due to earthquake damage and the city's uncertain hospitality scene, Viaduct reopened at its new upstairs location on Oxford Tce alongside the Avon River in December.

The original bar was opened by Jonny Botherway in 1997 on Oxford Tce – then known as ‘The Strip' – and served as a popular after-work drinks and weekend space along with adjoining venue di lusso, also owned by Botherway. The area is now known as The Terrace.

Have you been to the new Viaduct yet? Did you ever go to the old one?
