Would you like to learn Salsa Dancing but don't have anyone to dance with? No worries Papanui High School is offering a Salsa Dance - Ladies Salsa Shines Course which is designed to offer women the chance to get a taste of the new exciting Salsa Ladies Shines. Come along and learn fundamental Salsa Dancing steps. This course is being taught by Mia Yatiswara who is originally from Bali and she has been dancing salsa for almost a decade and has danced since she was a child. She has won countless competitions in solo, couples and team categories both in New Zealand and Australia. Mia is also a leader, founder and choreographer for Latin Ladres Team "Kitmos Candonte". She has qualified from the "Salsa Masters Teacher Training Programme" at Salsa Latina. The class is being held at Papanui High School on a Wednesday night beginning on 13 February 6.30-7.30 pm for 7 weeks at a cost of $98. DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?
