Lake Ellesmere dark sky reserve
A handful of images of the Milky Way taken on 7th July near Lake Ellesmere - who says astrophotographers have to travel all the way to the Mackenzie Basin and Lake Tekapo to get epic dark sky? :) On the subject of dark sky reserves I posit that the Selwyn district council should promote the area as an alternative to Tekapo, because there are places around the lake, and out towards Coopers Lagoon etc where the sky has almost zero light pollution. :) Photographed on a Sony A7S with a Samyang 24mm f/1.4 lens...

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
