“When I walked in the door, I knew immediately I was going to live here.” On a typical day you could start out with a barista-made coffee and a treat at the café, get in your steps at the gym, or join neighbours for a game of pool before moving to happy hour.
“The village has a feeling of a resort hotel. I thought — it reminds me of that hotel in Spain.” Kate added.

Christchurch City Council bought land on Quaifes Rd in Halswell to build a stormwater treatment facility. At the time, the council was forced to buy more land than it needed because the owner did not want to sell only a portion of the property.
The council always planned to sell the surplus land (3.67 hectares) to help recoup costs, but the Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton community board wants a third retained for a park or community facility that could be needed in the future.
The council sided with staff, who said the land was not needed for a park or community facility because Halswell’s future was already well catered for within its growth plans.
Council head of facilities, property and planning Bruce Rendall said there were already 77 parks within a 2-kilometre radius of the site and more sports parks were planned for Templeton.

New Zealand’s longest running photography studio, Standish and Preece, is showcasing a selection of its 75,000 images held in the museum’s collection that were captured from 1885 to 2020.
The photos, which include weddings, sport games, family portraits, school photos, kapa haka groups, graduation photos and more, represent the changing faces of Canterbury over more than a century at some of the most important events of their lives.
The museum put 32,000 of the collection’s images on its website during last year’s alert level four lockdown, asking the public to help identify many of the people and places photographed.
A further 43,000 images went live last week. Read more here.

When Erich Krogmann started the Food and Beverage Level 2 qualification, he had to learn how to balance study with a night job and a young family, but his main challenge came in the form of his hearing disability.
Erich says he thinks he’s inspired other people with a disability to take on training.

Teenage sweethearts who rekindled their romance after more than 50 years – and nearly 20,000 kilometres apart – are still waiting to reunite thanks to Covid-19.
Jock Anderson, 74, and Elizabeth Robertson, 73, were teenage sweethearts after attending Macandrew Intermediate School in Dunedin together in the 1960s.
The pair reignited their spark in 2019 after half a century apart when Anderson travelled to Scotland for a holiday and got in touch with Robertson, who moved there in 1972.
“As soon as I saw her, I knew the spark was still there,” Anderson said.
Their romantic story has been featured on The Times and BBC in the UK.

Christchurch Hospital has been forced to treat all patients as being potentially infected with Covid-19 as the symptoms are similar.
One Canterbury toddler, Meah Radford, was fine on Friday, but four days was in hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Mum Brittany Beddoes says it was the "scariest thing" she had ever experienced.
Click here to read more about Meah's experience and about the RSV outbreak.

Personally, I love a beer with a nice Indian curry! I am opposed to any media advertising of alcohol and especially any promotion of it as a necessary social lubricant... The topic is, essentially, about harm minimization. About not glamorizing it to youth and children or those with potential substance and drug abuse problems.
Incidentally, Chloe Swarbrick, (Greens Party) a get-up-and-go person, has just (circa June, 2021) floated a Bill proposal in Parliament opposing alcohol advertising. The Labour Party also has a long held and firm Party resolution on on their books about NO alcohol advertising.
The Alcohol sector has a LOT of Parties' election funds to spread around and can purchase the finest governments money can buy! The Australian Federal Government banned alcohol advertising some 30 years or so ago.
The Nats have NO interest in banning alcohol advertising because, Simon Bridges (my personal eye-to eye meeting with him) says it "will cost jobs." A very typical NeoLiberal political stance.
