It has been an eventful time on Geraldine Street - a grenade was found over the fence alongside my driveway a few weeks ago causing the evacuation and cordoning off of several surrounding properties for a few hours, and then at 11pm last night a drink driver crashed into 3 parked cars writing off … View moreIt has been an eventful time on Geraldine Street - a grenade was found over the fence alongside my driveway a few weeks ago causing the evacuation and cordoning off of several surrounding properties for a few hours, and then at 11pm last night a drink driver crashed into 3 parked cars writing off all those and the one he was driving - police breathalyzed him and he was well over the limit, but he resisted arrest so they bundled him onto the ground, cuffed him and threw him in a squad car - a passenger was injured and taken to hospital. But despite all that unnecessary excitement the sunset was beautiful tonight... its not all terrible things... ;)

On Thursday afternoon the ECan council approved its draft annual plan, which, after consultation and changes, has to be adopted by July 1.
If the proposed rise goes ahead unchanged, that will amount to another $25 a year on the rates bill for the owners of a $570,000 property in Christchurch, an extra $152 a year on a $5.1 million rural property in the Waimakariri district and about $13 a year on a $250,000 house in Waimate.
